In the times of the judges there was no king, and everyone did what was right in their own eyes.  That makes it sound a lot like our culture today.  There is also a connection between the efforts of the Israelites to claim the Promised Land and the efforts of followers of Jesus to allow Jesus to claim all of our hearts.  The gritty and compelling accounts that make up the book of Judges make it a fascinating read and a timely reminder of the need to make sure that the true and rightful ruler sits upon the throne of our hearts.
