“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always be who you’ve always been”.

This was a quote mentioned in one of my devotionals today and I couldn’t help but to reflect on it.

Striving to be more like Jesus every day requires growth and growth is not routine. It is easy to stay in our comfort zone, what is familiar to us. It takes true surrender to trust in God to get moving. Take action.

You want to eat better? Cut out that extra treat.

You want to feel better? Go to bed sooner.

You want to be nicer? Remove yourself from the gossip.

You want to be stronger? Get to the gym.

You want to love more? Spend more time with God.

There is a solution to almost every discomfort in our lives. We just have to seek it. Take action. Make some space for God and allow Him to work in your life.

I used to misinterpret this in my life. I thought surrender to God was sitting back and waiting. Sometimes yes, this is the case. Sometimes we need to loosen our grip on the wheel and just listen, but other times we need to move closer to him and take the steps to help him get us to where we want to be.

The good news is that when we place our faith in Jesus, the race to heaven is over. We don’t have to polish up or work up our way to get there. He accepts us as we are. What we do on Earth should glorify His name in heaven. He died for us. Let that light of His shine through you. Let your life echo his Word.

He died for us so let’s live for Him.

We thank you Jesus for your never-failing love for us. Let our lives glorify you, God, and ultimately point to you in heaven. We ask of this in and give praise to your name.

Psalms 86:12,

I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.
