Riverside Community Church Blog

Have you ever thought about this? “I give 99% of everything in my life over to God but that last 1%...why is that 1% so difficult to part with?”  I have thought about this often-that daily, sometimes hourly, minute to minute surrender.    How would my life (your life) look if we were able to surrender that 1% all to Him? I know for me in my life, I would have more peace, rest, contentment and freedom.

In the Bible there are many passages which remind us of the freedom we have in the cross when we give our lives completely over to God and live according to His will versus our flesh and our desires.

“He died for everyone so that those who receive his new life will no longer live for themselves. Instead, they will live for Christ, who died and was raised for them.” (2 Corinthians 5:15 NLT)

“If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake and for the sake of the Good News, you will save it.” (Mark 8:35 NLT)

What does it look like to surrender our thoughts, our plans, our will, our way to God? Being willing to trust God’s perfect will and perfect way for us. Giving up our lives completely for Jesus’ honor and glory-this can be so difficult.  I have found that by spending more time in the Bible, more time praying and fasting, being still and in the waiting-God draws me closer.  That daily surrender is pertinent for me and for all of us who follow Jesus in our world today.  I know that I will not be perfect here on this Earth.  I am not striving for perfection.  Jesus is the perfect, sinless Son of God.  Because of his perfect life and perfect death on the cross I am saved and will be with God in heaven forever.  This is available to you as well! As we get tired of holding on so tightly to that 1%, we are reminded that God wants all 100% of our lives.  (I’m reminding myself of this too as I type this blog.)  Today I encourage you to loosen your grip on that 1% and lean into God so that you can experience his peace and rest.

Pray with me…

Lord, I pray that we are willing to surrender our lives fully to you.  I pray that you help us to trust you in every part of our lives knowing that you have the perfect plan for our lives. Lord you are so good.  I pray that you give us a desire to dive deeper into your Word so that we can have a better understanding of who you are and grow closer to you.  I thank you Lord for direct access to you and that you are always listening to us and our prayers.  We love you Lord.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen
