Mark 4:35-41

Jesus is sleeping in the boat and a storm is raging. The disciples wake Him and say, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

He said, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?”

They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him?”

Where they were terrified-Of the storm-Or-of The One who could stop the storm?

Who am I more afraid of? The horrible storms of life that seemingly rip my heart out or of The God who has created and controls all I see?

"May I remember who you are, Father God in the middle of life storms. The God who spoke things into existence and could just as easily speak them out of existence.
May I not be more afraid of the waves that come crashing in; the waves that are larger than my boat, than of you. May I not be insisting that you prove your love to me by making it all stop. May I be determined to have faith that you are present, in the midst of the storm.

I WANT to want YOU more than I want the storms to stop. And when I don’t….may that be my prayer. The prayer to want you more intensely than I want a loved one to be healed; to want you more desperately than I want peace in my marriage; to want you more intentionally than wanting or working toward financial security.

And when life storms are calm - I want to be as hungry for you, as if a crisis were happening.”

This is my heart’s desire: to lift my fear to you and watch as you replace it with faith. Not faith that you will stop the storm but faith in who you are and who I belong to. I belong to The Unseen One who has already proved His love and care for me as He bought me with the high price of dying on the cross.

CHALLENGE: Instead of putting your faith and hope in the fact that God can indeed stop the wind and the waves, may our faith and hope be in His love for us and the fact that He is indeed present in the midst of our life storms.

May you rest in His presence and find comfort in His great love for you; The Lord Jesus Christ who can not only stop the wind and the waves but is present in the midst of them.
