One of our neighbors LOVES washing his truck! Literally, he washes his truck every few days no matter how cold it is outside! That truck is sparkling clean day after day! (I wish I could say the same for my car!) This past summer, he and his family took a road trip. On the drive home, the truck broke down, not once but twice. Eventually they had the truck towed to a local mechanic. The mechanic diagnosed the car...it had transmission problems! Never something you want to hear as a car owner! Eventually they got it fixed and it is running again.

So this incident got me thinking... How much time do I spend making my outward appearance look clean and shiny...like I have it all together while my insides, my heart, my relationship with my Heavenly Father can be anything but together?
I would encourage you to ask yourself the same question. God wants our hearts. He wants us to surrender everything to Him. He is interested in us...not our clean shiny spotless outside but our broken hearts, our broken pieces. He wants to work in and through those things. How hard do we work on cleaning up our outside and forget about our hearts and our connection with Jesus, our Lord and Savior?

How much time do we spend sprucing up our Facebook pages and Instagram accounts to make it look like we have it all together? And how much time do we dedicate each day to the Lord, getting closer to Him so that we can understand Him better and so that He can change us from the inside out?

God wants our hearts...“O my son, give me your heart. May your eyes take delight in following my ways.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭23:26‬ ‭

“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy—full of greed and self-indulgence! You blind Pharisee! First wash the inside of the cup and the dish, and then the outside will become clean, too.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭23:25-26‬ ‭NLT‬‬

I encourage you to take time today with your Heavenly Father. Ask Him to reveal the condition of your heart. What are some things that He is showing you and convicting you about? Ask Him for help in working through these broken pieces.

Lord, I pray that we seek you and grow closer to you every day. I pray that we come to you in prayer, recognizing that even though the outside of us may be cleaned up, we are broken and need your help every minute of every day! We are so grateful for your son, Jesus, who sacrificed Himself for us so that we can live freed and forgiven! Thank you Lord!
